Machinist Journeyperson

1st Shift

*Classification – Hourly

JOB DESCRIPTION

Must be capable of setting up and operating a variety of both manual and CNC machine tools to produce precision parts, tooling and machines.

Essential Functions

  • Machining components for new equipment and machine upgrades.
  • Assembling machines and machined components based on engineering drawings.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment and perform scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, and material handling equipment in performing duties.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Journeyperson papers or equivalent experience required.
  • Manual mill and lathe setup and operation required.
  • CNC mill and lathe setup and operation a plus.
  • Programming with Bobcad or other CAM software a plus
  • Surface grinding a plus
  • OD grinding a plus
  • Mold repair a plus
  • Die repair a plus
  • Fabrication and welding with MIG/TIG a plus

  • Basic math skills.
  • Basic reading skills.
  • Must be able to follow directions.
  • Basic computer navigation and utilization skills.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
  • Ability to solve problems and/or develop new concepts or ideas.

  • Able to work in a repetitive, routine, and team orientated environment.

Work Environment

  • This job operates in a manufacturing plant.
  • Certain tasks or work areas require hearing protection to be worn.
  • May be working in areas where fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration are present – appropriate personal protection equipment must be worn in those areas.

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Regularly lift 30-50 pounds.
  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
  • Regularly possess manual dexterity to put parts or pieces together quickly and accurately.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Saturday overtime as necessary).

Travel

Some travel may be required to attend training, seminars, trade shows and/or equipment evaluations. Some travel could be overnight and/or international.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Reports to

1stshift Machine Shop Supervisor.
